ECOLOGICAL CAMP ON LAKE BAIKAL SUMMER OF 2013.
If you have never been to Baikal, you haven’t seen Russia…Our international ecological camp was situated in a picturesque place – on the lake shore at the foot of the Baikal Mountains. Crystal water, pure air, magnificent landscapes…Flowered forest clearing in the virgin taiga on the great lake shore became our temporary home…Everyday excursions either to the mountains or to the surrounding taiga, or to the hot springs, or to the rapid river of Kurkula…
From time to time our everyday life was diversified by the field sauna with birch or fir brooms…And in the evening we had regular get-togethers on the lake shore near the fire with a guitar…The cuisine was diversified by grayling and omul fish soup (ukha), fresh-salted fish, stonecrop salads, herbal tea and other tasty things… I think there was only one problem that made our romantic life harder – it was cold in the first part of summer especially at night…But nature lovers can always find a way out – many of them equipped their tents with round stones brought from Baikal and heated by the evening fire for the night…And after the camp had been finished (by the irony of fate the weather on the lake had become hot at that time) the “Finval” Research Centre staff members continued examination and further study of the great lake. The twin-hull ship easily crossed the choppy lake from Severobaykalsk to Cape Nemnyanka… Further we saw marvellous Frolikha and Ayaya bays, sandy Khakusy, singing sands, caves and sacred capes. There were botanical, zoological and unexpected archeological finds in the expedition, a Neolithic stone axe and an awesome ruby-red silicon spear being the main ones!
